I think this course is great! I’m trying to carve out more time to get the assignments done. We are currently on the First Aid part. I’ve gone through your site and a couple of others to get ideas.

Since I am the designated carried of the BIG medical kit, I will be carrying the more serious supplies. I have decided if I want them in a molle bag on the outside of my pack or if I will have them inside of my pack. Simultaneously I am searching for the “right” case for my in home first aid kit. I don’t know why I’m so indecisive.

I’ve gone back and forth between a bunch of different options Bronwyn, so I get it! But I think I have finally settled into something I really like. I have my home kit it various bins in a closet. I’ll post a picture on the facebook prep 101 page today. Our car kit is in a tackle box. The hardest one for me has been teh kit in our 72 hour kit “go-bags” I’m actually working with a company right now (minutemanrx) to create a kit specific for my readers / this course that comes in an awesome bag! It should be available in the next month or so.

I’ve been meaning to ask you…what brand of tackle box. We didn’t see anything we liked at Cabelas OR Bass Pro Shop.

I am on lesson one, just starting. I need to decide what I must do to even get started! We are about to enter six months of hurricane season (June 1 thru November 30), so I sort of know what to do to prepare for that. But I need to think about preparing for “other” disasters as well. Right now I am starting by doing EDC bags and BOBs. I do now carry in my purse a whistle and a small flashlight after being “trapped” in a very large odd-shaped room with no windows when someone accidentally turned off the light, not realizing I was still in the room! BTW–I wasn’t sure what “SHTF” meant so I Googled it. NOW I know! LOL One thing that is delaying my preparations is the lack of money. My “job” until recently was taking care of my mother, so I’m not working right now. DH is on disability.

SCARY!!!! Oh goodness! All the “kits” (BOB, EDC, INCH, 72 hour etc) are week’s 14-16 in the course. But in the meantime, I do offer an e-book all about building a 72 hour kit (3 day BOB). You can find it here: https://simplefamilypreparedness.com/your-own-72-hour-kit-plan-e-book/ YOu can also find the same info for free on my site here: https://simplefamilypreparedness.com/2011/09/survival-kit-ideas-week-by-week/ but it doesnโ€™t include all the pictures and isnโ€™t quite as detailed.

I started this week. I have many components for disaster preparedness (water filter, water, food for 3 days, flashlights, lighters, portable stove, propane, medical kit and basic supplies, tarp, rip cord, utility knive, and many more things) but never have thought about it in a systematic way. Look forward to learning more.

Oh, The chapter I’m working on is refreshing my CPR skills. I learned CPR and have been re-certified many times, but I’m due, so that’s where I am. We’ve always had a pool, so CPR and First Aid for children is something I’ve always taken seriously.

I had a 72 hour kit in my car, to die for. Since I was always in dresses, I had a change of clothes for both me and my baby, emergency medical releases for the family, in state and out of state contacts, food and cash. I also would buy the kids hand held video games each Christmas. I took the old ones and put them in their 72 hour kits. Each year I would replace the old with the new until I had enough for each child in my 72 kit, in my car. Then…..my car was stolen and never recovered.. I was upset about the car, but cried over the kit. My kids are grown and I’ve not gotten around to replacing my kit. Funny, though, my church is working on those this month and I have a whole new list of ideas for mine.
