A Donation in Your Behalf

November 15, 2012 //  by Simple Family Preparedness//  Leave a Comment

As I’ve followed the devastation in the Philippines I’ve been so saddened by the destruction there.  It is massive and there is intense need there as people work to put their lives back together.  I have so much and have been so very blessed.

But What Can I Do?

Sometimes I feel like what I have to offer is just a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed.  But, I don’t want that feeling to keep me from helping.  I love this story (adapted from “The Star Thower” pg 172):

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.  As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

Even if I only make a difference to one, I would like to do something small to help.

Making a Difference to One

I have decided to donate $2 to those in the Philippines for every THRIVE Life order referred to me as part of Project Preparedness.  That project is all about helping as many as possible become better prepared than they were last month within a budget they can afford.  Read more about Project Preparedness here.

What better way to help others become prepared than by helping them pick up the pieces of their lives that were destroyed by something they couldn’t completely prepare for?

Adding this donation to Project Preparedness means that not only will you and your friends and family become better prepared for less, but those in the Philippines will be helped as well.   Every order you or your friends and family place will translate into $2 for someone in the Philippines.  Each one of you can make a difference to at least one!

The donation to the Philippines is just one of three gifts I’m giving away for my “birthday” (I have been a THRIVE Life consultant for 3 years this week).  You can read about the other gifts here:  Happy Birthday to Me!
