I am SO excited about this copycat Campbell’s tomato soup recipe!  It took me forever to perfect it, so I’m just thrilled to finally be able to post it! Hurry and try it now! You’ll surely love the result.

5 Ingredient Copycat Campbell's Tomato Soup Recipe. This is SPOT-ON and has no preservatives! https://simplefamilypreparedness.com/copycat-cambells-tomato-soup/

I have a son who absolutely loves Campbell’s tomato soup.  I’ve tried a bunch of homemade versions of tomato soup, but he just wants the canned stuff.  Birthday dinner?  Campbell’s tomato soup.  Got a cold?  Campbell’s tomato soup.  Lunch date with Mom?  Campbell’s tomato soup.  He LOVES the stuff.

But, I don’t.  It isn’t the taste.  I enjoy it, but I don’t love the high fructose corn syrup and preservatives.

Plus, I love my tomato powder for so many reasons (convenient, made from fully ripened tomatoes, VERY cost effective, no additives), and want to be able to use it for all things tomato.  It is my very favorite “food storage” product…one that I would use regularly even if I wasn’t at all into preparedness.  And the idea of storing just one 100% tomato product instead of multiple (canned with aditives) products is appealing.  I already use it to make spaghetti sauce, vegetable beef soup, bayou pasta, chili, and even ketchup. I’d love to be able to continue to add to that list!

Campbell’s Tomato Soup Recipe

Well, a few months ago, I decided to try to make a copycat Campbell’s tomato soup using my tomato powder and see if my son could tell the difference.  I failed. Big time. We ate pizza for dinner that night. That’s so hilarious.

But I kept trying!  And I finally found a recipe that is amazing.  I served it to my son last week, and he had no idea it wasn’t his beloved canned friend.  He was just so grateful that I’d made his favorite meal for dinner.

It’s pretty simple. You need just five ingredients.

And water…so I guess that makes six ingredients.  (-:

  1. One cannot make a copycat version of Campbell’s tomato soup without celery extract. Celery extract is clearly listed on the ingredients label on every can of the stuff.

  2. I made this with homemade tomato powder. I added a little garlic and onion powder.
This is chunky and does not taste like Campbells.
This recipe is for thrive life products.
The kids who requested tomato soup liked it so there’s that. But I don’t.

  3. I love vegetable powders!I am disabled and make this by the cup. its wonderful. I do skip the flour, heat the water in a microwave safe cup, add a pinch of minced dried garlic and a pinch of minced dried onion, a dab of tomato paste (out of a tube), and a basil leaf. 2 heaping tsp of tomato powder ad steep… remove basil leaf. mmmm good.

  4. Finally tried this one when I opened my can of tomato powder. I like the taste. Might add less salt next time. I’d like to make a powdered mix for camping and emergencies.

  5. Thank you for the recipe. I was heart broken when Lipton Cup a Soup discontinued their Tomato Soup pouches. Now I can make my own.

  6. Really delicious! Thanks so much for sharing this great recipe! Husband, son and SIL approved! They put goldfish crackers in theirs. Next time I will add just a little less sugar…maybe just 3T. If anyone is interested in using tomato paste instead, I put 1 can of tomato paste in 4cup measuring cup and enough water to make 4 cups…probably should have been 5 though because it was thicker than normal in the end. Perhaps it wouldn’t have tasted as sweet if I used more water. I was surprised at not being able to taste the flour at all. Anyways, great recipe and I’ll be using it from now on. Thanks so much!

    • No tomato powder is 100% tomatoes that have been dried and turned into a powder. Tomato bouillon is full of lots of other ingredients as seasonings and additives.

  9. I finally got around to purchasing some tomato powder and I made this soup for lunch today. Oh man, was it a hit. My children and I loved it. I used evaporated canned milk only because that is what I had opened at the time. So yummy. We will be making this often. Thank you so much Misty!

  10. I love this recipe. I add all the ingredients into a bowl and divide it up into 2 canning jars and seal. Whenever I want some soup, I bring 2 to 2 1/4 cups of water to a boil, whisk in the tomato mixture and within seconds it ready. Depending on the thickness more water can be added. I now am dividing it into 4 so I can give it to my mom who lives alone and can whip up some soup just using kettle.

  11. It is one of my favs, too, and I have put the recipe in my Evernote recipe collection. Just one glitch that I corrected in ky copy – it is CAMPBELL’S, and not Cambell’s. There is a “p” in it. Look at the label in your photo of the can.

  12. I love the tomato powder in vegetable soup and other soups. My kids love canned tomato soup. I’ll have to give this a try. I also use the tomato powder when I make Mexican rice. Yum!
