Prep-101 Month #3: First Aid

Welcome to month #3 of Prep-101!  This month, we will focus on first aid. Just as water is essential to life, so is first aid.  In fact, a serious first aid emergency without certain first aid skills, could be a recipe for disaster.

While we won’t likely face every single disaster that we are preparing for, it is very likely that sometime in our lives, we will have need of first aid skills.  First aid emergencies occur all the time: at work, at school, at home, on the street, in a store.

Even if the first aid emergency is the only thing going on, ambulances don’t arrive immediately!   And heaven forbid the injury was caused by some sort of natural disaster and there are a LOT of injuries going on!  Those ambulances may not be coming for some time in that situation.  Knowing what action needs to be taken as well as having the skills and supplies to do so can mean the difference between life and death.

Although we will talk a lot about first aid this month, you need to understand a few things:

  • I am not a doctor.  My advice is simply what I have found from my own research and education.
  • It is likely that most of you are not doctors either.  Do the best you can to learn and increase your first aid knowledge and skills, but be willing to seek a doctor’s help when appropriate
  • First aid does not eliminate the need for a hospital or doctor.  Instead, it is used to get life threatening injuries under control until you can get to a doctor.

Here is a summary of what you can expect this month. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Why Learn First Aid:

It is lifesaving.  Expert help is not always immediately available.  The more members of society who have basic first aid skills, the better off we will all be.
