Hi I’ve just statered out but so far I’ve got 2 cases of bottled water, 1 LifeStraw go Bottle, I’ve been looking at getting another one, as well as some tablets (not sure what brand yet). I have means to boil water but I plan to look into other ways to make water drinkable.
YAY!!!!! I’m so Excited! I will talk with my husband and get back to ya! THANKS!!!!!
Am just starting, and so far have purchased 3 cases of bottled water. I’m hoping to purchase water filtration kit as well as large storage containers. We live on a creek and so have lots of water handy, just need to be able to purify and store enough of it.
I would LOVE to live near a creek! My recent post on water filtration / purification may be helpful to you Wendy: https://simplefamilypreparedness.com/water-filtration-and-purification/
Hmm, I thought I had posted on this but I don’t see it. Anyways, we have 4 – 55 gal barrels for rainwater and another barrel that holds about 250 gal. We are putting up a large above ground pool that holds 15,000 gal! For drinking water I have wine and vodka bottles that have been filled with water. I keep adding to them.
Hubby is building me an office that will be separate from the house, I am an income tax preparer and will be working for myself next year instead of working for someone else. We will have rain barrels set up for it also. Between the garden, animals and people we need a lot of water! I think I pretty much have it covered but I do need a filtration system that I have not purchased yet.
Wow. Brenda! That is a LOT of water. Good for you!
I am just starting so I only have cases of water. Working on some 5 gallon containers. Definitely hoping to increase water storage!
Every little bit counts!
We finally filled up our 3-55 gallon containers! We’ve had them EMPTY for years but finally are settled enough to make space for them and fill them up.
Isn’t that funny! You aren’t alone. I know lots and LOTS of people who have empty water barrels. Between two moves, ours sat empty for about 8 months!
I forgot to mention that we have 4 – 55 gal. drums filled and stored, 20 – 2 ltr. bottles cleaned and filled and stored away, 6 -6 gal. containers with handles filled and stored, 2 aqua pods, a pool that is filled beyond the normal fill line, buckets in each bathroom to haul water to flush the toilet during emergencies, the kids and I are learning how to tap into the hot water heater tank if we need to, and I am purchasing another 55 gal. drum and putting a screen over the top to catch rain water. We have bleach on hand, purification tablets and a variety of filters to run the water through. But I also plan to boil the water first for the water we drink.
My family will be turning off the water supply to our house for 3 days just to see if we have stored enough water for that length of time, but also to see what we may have missed storing water for and ways we can improve our storage and purification methods.. I will not tell them when this will happen. We lived in the Caribbean for 2 years and when it rained our plumbing would shut off until someone from the village went into the mountains to clear the blockage. That normally took about 2 weeks. I think I’m going to be okay because of that experience, but we shall see. As for purification, I plan on boiling water for dishes and bathing. I will boil water and filter drinking water with our Sawyer filters and Aqua Pails too. Can’t be too careful. Thanks for all this helpful information you are providing.
Awesome Jonell! Come back and tell us all what you learn!
I have used the 55 gallon drums for years, but after having moved twice in the past two years, I’m now going to use the 5 gallon storage. Also, our children are all grown and these will be easier for us to use.
The 5 gallon are SO much easier to move!
Getting back into getting our 72 hour kits organized! We’ve got some water bottles already but I really want to get some filter bottles or something. This would be awesome!
I had water filter bottles in ours for a long time. They are a good choice. If you want some help with your kits, I have an e-book: https://simplefamilypreparedness.com/your-own-72-hour-kit-plan/
I really want to get some waterbricks – I have a small townhouse and anything that can save space (and stillbe easily moved) would be great
The waterbricks are great for that!
I am saving plastic pop and juice bottles to store water in. I would love love to get a 55 gallon water drum!
I am working on getting a manual well pump as well as filter materials
I just started the course Misty and I’m so excited. I know it sounds weird but I’ve been storing water in 1/2 gallon vodka bottles. I don’t drink but my next door neighbor and her friends go through about 3 of them a week and thought they would be perfect. They hold liquid without leaking, pre-sterilized from the booze and FREE!!! I have about 20 gallons stored but they do take a lot of space. Thank you for the opportunity to win this next level (for me) of water storage. Good luck everyone.
Awesome Kris! I didn’t even think about the sterilization from the alcohol. Smart
I am single in 65’s with two small dogs with knowledge of 25 signs in American Sign Language. I already have two 30 gallons blue water containers in two closets. Also I have about five big cases of plastic bottles in my bedroom closet. I would love to have another one like that 55-gallon container for washing underwears and a few other things. Psst…I bought adult plastic underwear to last a week in case if no water is not available. No shame in wearing them for people with sensitive bladder infection. In that state where I live is experiencing winter drought, I have been reading the websites about how to take care of the less-thirsty plants. Lucky that those veggie plants are my favorite ones to be canned and stored.
I have a water filtration system with a ceramic filter. I want to get a couple more filters, those are on my to buy list. Also on my to buy list are some 55 gallon drums.
