THRIVE Life Consultant: How Much Time Does It Take?

How much time will I need to spend to be successful as a THRIVE Life (formerly Shelf Reliance) consultant? This is probably the #2 question I’m asked (in one form or another) by those considering becoming a THRIVE Life consultant.  (The #1 is “How much money will I make as a THRIVE Life Consultant?“).

And it is a fair question!  Many who are considering this business are busy stay-at-home Moms.  Others already have full-time jobs.  It is important to know if you will be able to invest the time needed to be “successful.”

Successful THRIVE Life Consultant

If you want to know how much time it will take to be successful as a THRIVE Life consultant, the first thing I would tell you to do is to ask yourself what you mean by “success?” My answer to your question depends on your answer to mine!

Are you expecting full-time income next month?  Won’t happen no matter how much time you invest.  See why here.

Are you hoping for full-time income within a year?   That is very possible, but will take a LOT of effort; likely full-time hours/commitment.

Are you hoping for a few hundred dollars a month to make the car payment or create a little wiggle room in your budget?  That can be done with about 4-5 hours/week.

See what I mean? The time you will need to invest will depend on what “success” means to YOU!

Consistency Is Key

If you define “success” as a full-time income, then consistency will be your key!  If you consistently invest time in your business each and every week, it will grow and you will eventually earn a full-time income.

If you are able to invest 30+ hours each week, your business will grow quickly and you will likely reach full-time income within a year or so.

But even if you can only invest 5-10 hours each week, if you do so consistently, you will get there too!  It would take you longer than someone investing 30+ hours each week, but it will happen.  The key is staying positive and not giving up!

If you are unable to consistently invest at least 5 hours each week into your business, it is likely it will always be a “side-business,” earning part-time income for you.

My Experience As a THRIVE Life Consultant

In my business, I first started just hoping to earn some free food.  My plan was to do 1 party/class per month (about 5 hours total).  But I decided I wanted to 3 parties/events right away just for practice.  I did so and had such a fantastic response that I ended up doing more like a party each week….maybe even 5-6 each month.

Those first few months, I spent about 5-10 hours each week.  That included all prep time for the parties, drive time, time at the party, and follow-up. In addition to that, I spent time “training:” calls with my enroller, watching videos, reading up on the product, practicing cooking with the product, etc.

As my business (and my team) grew, I started to realize that this opportunity really did have full-time income potential.  Even with four young kids at home, I decided to find a way to invest more time.

I wanted to provide opportunities for my children that I couldn’t otherwise….financial security first, but beyond that, a home with a fun playroom and yard to build memories in, money for quality education, opportunities to visit other countries, both for fun and in humanitarian ways: opportunities expose my children to other cultures/ideas/peoples.

So, I started spending more time helping & training the other consultants on my team.  I started spending more time on this blog.   And since mid-2011, I’ve spent an average of 20-30 hours/week on my business.

Sometimes this is in 5 or 10-minute blocks of time between story time and bath time.  When my kids were younger, it was during nap time.  Now that they don’t nap, I actually hire someone to watch them for 4 hours each week so I have a solid block of “writing time.”  The bulk of my work is done in the evening (and sometimes into the wee hours of the morning) when the kids are in bed.

But I’ve found a way.  I enjoy my work.  It is an outlet and a fun “hobby.”  I get to help others in real ways and I get paid for it!  It has been more than worth the time I’ve chosen to invest!

Do You Want To Be a THRIVE Life Consultant?

This is a real job and takes real work, but the time you invest is your choice.  You can grow your business quickly or slowly.  You can grow it during the day or in the evenings or on your lunch breaks!  It is up to you!  Just remember to be consistent!
