Prep-101 Month #2: Water
This month in Prep-101, we will focus on water. Water is absolutely essential to life. You will not survive more than 3 days without water. We need water to drink, to be sanitary, for cleaning wounds, for laundry. It is essential. Yet, I think this incredibly important topic often gets overlooked for a few reasons:
- We can’t truly imagine life without water. We use it all day, every day, it is next to free and we tend to take it for granted.
- If you get past #1, you start to realize that you will need a LOT of water and it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
My purpose / goal this month is to make water storage / purification as do-able as possible. I want to take the “I’m SO OVERWHELMED” feeling out of the picture and give you clear and simple goals for your family. We will talk about water storage, water filtration and water purification. I will share ideas that are less expensive but more time consuming along with more expensive, but less time consuming ideas.
Here is a summary of what you can expect this month. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway!
Why Store Water:It is essential to life. You cannot live for long with out water. Water can be shut off for a number of reason. It may also become contaminated for a number of reasons. Most everyone will need to live without running water for at least a brief period of time. |
Challenge #2 (your assignment):(1) Find a way to store more water than you now have stored with a minimum of 3 gallons per person. (ready.gov and fema’s minimum recommendation) . |

Giveaway:This month, the winner of our giveaway will get to choose their prize. Choose a 55 gallon water storage system or four sawyer mini water filters! |
I know in several states that you are not allowed to have rain barrels, we can have them here in GA. We have a total of 470 gal in those barrels for the garden. I have several wine and vodka bottles (we drink the wine, I use the vodka to make extracts) that are now storing drinking water and pretty soon when the pool is up in a couple more months we will have 15,000 gal more that with the proper filtration can be used for whatever we need it for. We are planning to buy a system within the next couple of months.
I would love some rain barrels Brenda!
