How to Make Snow Ice Cream

Mom with a PREP | Take advantage of the snow and make something fun!! Keep the ingredients in your food storage so that you can make a great treat on any snow day! #prepare4life #snowday

In anticipation of the dusting of snow our area might receive today, I decided to pull out this fun snow day treat we make once a year – that’s how many times we might get snow.

I’m sure that all of those of you living in the northern climes are probably sick of the white stuff now, but this makes a fun treat for the kids to make. I make sure to keep ingredients stocked in my pantry & freezer (yes, I freeze half and half just for this reason).

How to Make Snow Ice Cream

(put out bowls for collecting clean snow when you know it’s coming. This recipe makes about a gallon total…enough for leftovers even after the snow is gone!)

1 C Half and Half
1 C Milk
1 C sugar
1.5 tsp vanilla
16 C  snow (make sure it’s fresh, CLEAN snow)

Pour snow into a large bowl, mix in rest of ingredients, and stir until fully incorporated. This takes awhile, and it looks kind of crumbly, but eventually it melts just enough to blend. Freeze the excess, just allow it to sit out for a few minutes before mixing it up again, to the creaminess that suits you.

This is the version each year. It makes a ton and we can have it for days.

Here is an alternate version that you can use with sweetened condensed milk instead of half and half. Since you can store sweetened condensed milk in your pantry, it makes the perfect ‘prepper’ treat 🙂

Snow Ice Cream II

8 cups snow, or shaved ice
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Follow above instructions.

We’ve tried both version. Both are good. We prefer the first version, but know the 2nd version is good for times when you just don’t have refrigeration, so we stock the ingredients for it, too!

Here are some alternate forms of snow ice cream.
